Inside: This summer backyard clean-up activity has got to be the easiest water activity that requires pretty much zero effort on your end. It is sure to keep your little one engaged so you can happily ‘sittervise’ (every mom’s favorite thing to do!).
Summer Backyard Clean-Up Activity
Alright mamas, I’ve got the EASIEST ever water activity for your little one that requires pretty much no set up on your end. All you need is a sponge and bucket. That’s it!
What To Do
Just fill the bucket with water, hand over a clean sponge, and let your little one ‘wash’ allllllll the things they can find in the backyard.
You may need to demonstrate once how to wash or encourage at first, “can you wash your playhouse off? What about the deck steps?” But they will catch on quickly!
We had the water table and baby pool set up so my toddler utilized those to refill his bucket when it emptied. I liked this as it let him be independent with the activity. It also presented yet another skill-building challenge: filling up a bucket. You could also just use the hose or indoor faucet.
I know it sounds almost too simple, but this activity entertained my guy for at least a good solid hour! And I got to ‘sittervise’ which is the best on a hot summer day. 😎
My toddler went around the whole backyard finding things to wash: his toys, the deck, his playhouse, the dogs 🤪, the patio chairs, the siding of our house, even mom and dad’s legs, haha!
Henry had so much fun dipping the sponge and getting water everywhere. He looked like he was on a very important mission carrying his sponge and bucket around the yard.
On the next hot day, give it a try! Let me know how your toddler did with this summertime activity by leaving a comment. If you’re looking for more fun summer activities, be sure to check out this post detailing how to set up a toddler-sized car wash.
