Halloween Snack Mix Family Movie Night
Kick off Halloween season by creating a Halloween movie night with your kids. Get them excited by making a fun Halloween themed snack mix to go with their movie.
Halloween Snack Mix Ingredients
- 8 cup Chex Cereal (Rice vs. the Corn)
- 3/4 cup peanut butter, creamy
- 1 cup chocolate chips
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1/4 t vanilla
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- Brach’s Candy Corn
- Mini Reese’s Cups
- Reese’s Pieces
- Brach’s Mellowcreme Pumpkins
Halloween Snack Mix Directions
Measure out Chex into a LARGE bowl, set aside.
Melt peanut butter, chocolate chips, and butter in the microwave in 30 second intervals, stirring in between, until melted and mixed together. (Or use a double broiler).
Add in vanilla and stir.
Pour melted mixture onto Chex and stir carefully until all cereal is fully coated.
Once coated, pour entire mixture into a gallon Zip-lock bag and add powdered sugar. Close tightly and shake well until all cereal is coated in powdered sugar.
Add 1/4 of the cereal or so into a large clean bowl. Pour some of your candy corn, Reese’s candies, and pumpkins in and mix gently. Repeat this process until all cereal is in bowl and everything is mixed pretty evenly.
I honestly found it easier to just sift the candies through with my hands instead of a spoon to avoid breaking the cereal.
Add a handful of candies on top, as ‘garnish’. Serve and enjoy!
Halloween Movie Night
Pick a family friendly Halloween movie and spoon out some Halloween snack mix into individual bowls (it’s too good to share a bowl! haha).
Some of our favorite toddler-friendly Halloween movies are:
- It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown
- Pooh’s Heffalump Halloween Movie
- Curious George: A Halloween Boo Fest
- Micky Mouse Clubhouse: Mickey’s Treat
Family Movie Night Set Up
I like to add a little extra excitement to our family movie nights so that they feel more special and less commonplace. This can be achieved simply by changing where you watch your movie.
If you normally watch on your living room couch, switch it up and create a little ‘bed’ of soft blankets and pillows on the living room floor. This creates a moment to all snuggle up together and make the event more memorable.
Alternatively, you could create a fort and watch from in there – the Nugget is perfect for this! Another idea is to head to an unexpected room – like the playroom or mom and dad’s room. Even if you normally don’t let your kids in your bed – I bet they’d have a blast snuggling in and watching from your room.
Just doing something to set the event apart from your average TV evening will create more joy and memories.
Our Movie Night Set Up
My newest favorite area for movie watching is our playroom. Our Nugget recently got moved into the playroom to give me some extra cushion for when we play in there – because HELLO third trimester pain.
We laid the Nugget out flat and put our two playroom pillow cushions (if you don’t have these, I highly recommend them!) on top to add even more comfort. I use the 2 triangle wedges from the Nugget to act as headrests.
For movie nights, we bring our spare TV into the playroom and pile on the blankets and snuggle in together with our special snacks.
Creating movie night in an unexpected room – such as the playroom – or even just on the floor instead of the couch really does amp up the anticipation and fun of movie night. Pair in your Halloween snacks and your kiddos are in for a real treat!
