Inside: A fun painted rock craft for toddlers. A SUPER easy and fun craft perfect for your toddler. Get outside and collect some rocks for some creative painting fun together!
Hi mamas! I’ve got a suuupppper easy and fun craft for you today. This one doesn’t require a whole lot of set-up and is sure to entertain your little one for awhile!
If you’ve never painted with toddlers before, be sure to check out my post explaining how to set-up, clean-up, and paint with your toddler. I link all of my favorite painting supplies within the post!
Supplies Needed for Rock Painting
- Paint
- Paintbrushes
- Rocks
- Paint Palette (optional)
- Kraft Paper + Masking Tape
- Art Smock (optional) or an old t-shirt
How To Set-Up for Rock Painting
Set-up is super easy for this activity. Set up your table for painting by laying out Kraft paper (or an old tablecloth / drop cloth) and dress your toddler in an art smock or old shirt.
Next, choose some paint colors and fill up a paint palette – or just squirt some colors right onto the Kraft paper at your kid’s work station!
Lastly, hand them some rocks and a few paintbrushes and let them go to town decorating rocks found outside. My toddler was ECSTATIC about painting the rocks we found at Grandma and Grandpa’s house. I was honestly pretty surprised at how long this activity captured his attention (pleasantly surprised!).
Painted Rock Craft
Our rocks turned out so cute! He’s very proud of them and immediately told Grandpa all about them on Facetime afterward.
We went with washable paint, so they will have to be kept indoors now that they are painted unless I decide to seal them with a waterproofing spray. For now, I’m happy to leave them indoors to admire.
I recommend using washable paint for young toddlers (trust me on this!). You just never know where paint may end up when a toddler is creating a masterpiece.
