Jack O’ Lantern Craft
How cute are these little pumpkin faces?!
My toddler got such a kick out of seeing these jack o’ lanterns. He kept pointing to them and saying ‘faces!’ and laughing while we were making them.
They make the perfect non-scary Halloween craft for little ones.
What You Need for Jack O’ Lantern Craft
- paper
- paint (orange, black, brown, and your preferred lettering color)
- small thin brushes (3)
- apple
- knife + cutting board for apple
If you’ve never painted with a toddler before, make sure you check out this post detailing all the ins and outs for painting with a toddler including set up, clean up, and must-have supplies.
How to Set Up for Jack O’ Lantern Craft
Set up your painting station and then begin by slicing an apple in half. Next, cut out a wedge on either side of your apple’s skin side to create a handle for little hands to grip. See the picture below for an example!
Then, squirt some orange paint onto your painting station.
How to Do Jack O’ Lantern Craft
Instruct your toddler to dab the apple slice into the orange paint and help guide them to stamp the apple slice onto the paper creating pumpkins.
Afterward, let them just free play with the paint and apple stamps while you work on the finishing touches.
For the finishing touches, add a brown stem, a jack o’ lantern face (get creative!), and some lettering for a Halloween message on top. I stuck with a simple “Happy Halloween! Love, Henry”.
