Looking for a cute Grinch Day keepsake craft? Look no further. This Grinch Craft is incredibly easy and is a great way to kick off celebrating ‘Grinch Day’ with your kids.
Celebrating Grinch Day
Christmastime is all about creating memories with your loved ones and partaking in fun holiday traditions.
Years ago, we decided to start a new tradition where we celebrate ‘Grinch Day’. This means that during a random day in December, we do a fun Grinch-themed craft, make a Grinch-themed recipe, and watch The Grinch movie together!
This tradition is so silly and fun and is one that can grow with your children. As they get bigger, you could incorporate fun Grinch-themed activities and games too.
What You Need for The Grinch Craft
- washable paint
- bright green, black, and yellow for The Grinch
- dark green and white for lettering and details
- thin paint brushes (4)
- medium paint brush (1)
- art smock
- Kraft paper or old drop cloth to protect your table
- glue
- white paper
- red construction paper
- scissors
- old washcloth, rinsed in warm water
How to Create The Grinch Craft
To create your very own Grinchy face, paint your child’s hand bright green and stamp it into the center of a piece of white paper. Afterward, let them freely paint their own masterpiece while you work on the finishing touches.
I like to do these alongside my kids so we truly are ‘painting together’. They will periodically stop and check out what I’m doing and make comments like, “mama’s painting with Henry” (Oh, how I miss those cute small sentences from my 2 year old).
Create your Grinch face using two very thin paintbrushes with black and yellow paint. Once your handprint has dried thoroughly, you can move on to step two in this craft.
For step two: cut the handprint out, leaving some white paper around each finger – this doesn’t have to be perfect!
Next, using red construction paper, cut a big heart out – I use the ‘fold in half’ trick to make a symmetrical heart. So easy!
Afterward, glue your Grinch handprint into the center of the heart.
Using a small paintbrush dipped in dark green paint, add a Christmas message. I chose a line from The Grinch ‘Maybe Christmas doesn’t come from a store. Maybe Christmas means a little bit more.’ But you can use any Grinch quote or Christmas message that you want!
Lastly, I added some white dots as ‘trim’ around the heart – to kind of give it a little bit of a ‘Valentine’s Heart’ look. If you’ve got older kids, they can either do this step themselves OR they can use their small finger to create dots along the heart edge!
Happy Holidays!
That’s it! I just love the way our Grinch craft came out and will treasure this keepsake for years to come.
